Jade Anderson

Jade's passion for horses began at an early age on her mother's Quarter Horse. The responsibility was left up to Jade to care and train her partner, and with the support and backing of her family, her love of horses developed into a love for Eventing. She eventually became a successful team member of the Area III Young Rider's program. Her partnership at the Advance Level on horses such as Cordobes and Galactic Jazz with whom she won the 1997 Team Gold, gave her a solid reputation not only as a talented eventer, but as a horsewoman who has insight and ability in bringing out the very best in each horse she trains.

For part of the 2006-2007 season, Jade joined up with Phillip Dutton and his True Prospect Farm in Pennsylvania. She had the honor of being a working student and gained valuable information that strengthened her Eventing skills and allows her to lend those talents to her clients.

My Experience with Phillip Dutton and True Prospect Farm

Last Summer in 2006, I felt that I had plateaued in my riding and was eager to go work for one of the top level professionals in the country. My good friend Julie Richards, who competed in the 2000 & 2004 Olympics, proposed to me the idea of working for Phillip Dutton. I decided that if I was to go away for an extended period of time if might as well be with the best in the world.

I arrived at Phillip'sTrue Prospect Farm with two talented horses and much intimidation. After meeting Phillip, I settled in quickly and started my journey as a working student at one the best training facilities in the country. Our days would start with morning barn chores, such as mucking, turning horses out, bringing horses in, hand grazing certain horses, cleaning the automatic waterers, and just general barn jobs. After barn chores were over we would wait for Phillip to bring down the days schedule, which included what horses he was to ride that day and whether they were to jump or flat. The schedule would also include who would ride the remaining horses and what we were to do with each. We were usually finished with our rides and lessons by 3:00pm and would finish the remaining barn chores by 4:00pm. The farm would work just like a factory--it was amazing.

The knowledge that I gained in the months I was there are priceless--The coaching I received from Phillip opened up a new chapter in my riding, not only did I gain knowledge in riding skills, but learned what it means and the importance of putting a horse on a regular riding schedule. Having all of this in mind will allow me to achieve the competition goals for each individual horse and rider.

To be apart of this international facility and to see how it must be managed was most educational. I was able to take away many useful tips on how to manage my barn more successfully.

My horses and I arrived back this year to Georgia more schooled and competitive. I look forward to a successful 2008 competition year not only for myself, but for my students.
